On January 21st, a warm sunny Saturday, the Barn saw 18 drivers show up for the Barn Burners Slot Car Clubs first Group C race of the 2026 season. Division 1 and division 2 drivers were paired together by division 2 drivers picking division 1 drivers. Notable picks were Troy: last year's dominant division 2 performer, picked by young hot shot Bryce. John, Bryce's Grandpa, picked Rich, a rocket scientist that spends his time developing his slot cars for speed. Zack, Bryce's dad, paired up with Zac. This pair has raced together with little success in the past. Sean, a seasoned veteran with a great passion for racing, picked the hot-headed Dave-O. Division 1 legend, Mike, was picked by dark horse Kristi. Not that the rest aren't important, these are just what stands out....
The first leg ended with Zack and Zac leading the charts by just over 4 laps thanks to fuel strategy and needing to pit at the start of the next stint.
There were loads of battles on track, opportunities for growth and great laughs had by the marshals.
This is ultimately a rambling of a podium challenged man who finally reached the peak of his slot car racing career..... Zack and Zac finished atop the podium with 252 laps, just 1 lap ahead of John and Rich the rocket scientist. Kristi and Mike rounded out the podium.
An exceptional time was had by all; the barn will be packed again on Tuesday for the first Carrera cup race of the season.
